What is a Nutritionist
A nutritionist is a health specialist who has completed training in areas such as food and nutrition science and preventative nutrition. Nutritionists work with individuals to help them manage diabetes, hypertension, weight loss, and more. Nutritionists may offer consulting services or work in a school, nursing home or hospital. In treating patients a nutritionist can also educate them on supplements, children’s nutrition, food allergies, safe foods during pregnancy and anti-inflammatory foods.

Foods and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
There are a number of foods that are beneficial with people with inflammatory bowel diseases, which include Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.
For general management of inflammatory bowel diseases, what we recommend is a high fiber diet, which includes lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and lean protein sources.
For people experiencing flare-ups of these diseases, we recommend a low-fiber diet, and this includes less fruits and vegetables, steaming whatever vegetables you are eating, avoiding raw nuts, seeds, legumes and beans, avoiding gas-producing vegetables such as broccoli or cabbage and increasing the lean protein in your diet.
For people who don’t think they’re getting enough anti-inflammatory properties in their food, supplements can help. If you have questions you can contact your local doctor, pharmacist, or registered dietitian.
